WBS President’s Message

3rd Update from the Road

Brian Rex Davis – September 1, 2025

While visiting WBS donors in the D.C. area, we decided to go by the National Mall.  Near the White House, we were stopped by Secret Service agents to allow the Presidential motorcade to pass.  The President had just visited a new museum of the “People’s House” to encourage them in their work.  “Encouragement in the work” is such an important part of what Sondra and I hope to do with our visits to donors and churches who make use of WBS tools!

At the Shillington church of Christ in Pennsylvania (near Reading), Sondra and I were the ones to be so encouraged.  During worship, one of the elders (below, left) of the church shared how he had become a Christian through World Bible School in India.  Another family (below, middle) in the church who had immigrated from Ghana shared how their mother had worked for many years in the WBS Service Center in Ghana to facilitate the return of lessons.  One just never knows where surprises of encouragement will pop-up!  Chris Boyce (below, right), a long-time fellow evangelist from my Inner-City ministry days, invited us to encourage the congregation in reaching out to their community with WBS.

As with so many of the congregations that we have visited in the Northeast, the light of Jesus is being shared in powerful and dynamic ways with diverse communities.  We are so thankful to be able to offer wonderful evangelism tools for these congregations who are shining the light of Jesus, daily, in their cities!

(Right) Sondra and I were invited to share about WBS with the Lake Norman church of Christ in North Carolina.  Joshua and Linda Ankiah, who had been missionaries in Durban, South Africa, are serving in this wonderful congregation.

They did Follow-up for WBS students in Durban, so they see how these tools can be effective in the U.S. as well.

As we have been travelling, I continue to get wonderful reports from the field.  Let me share a few of these with you in this update.

MONDAY AKPAKPAN REPORTS 279 BAPTISMS SO FAR IN 2025!

Bro. Monday, in his eighties now, first volunteered to help with WBS Follow-up in 1973, the year WBS began.  He answered the call to ACTION! from Jimmie Lovell to help baptize those who were ready to obey the Gospel as they completed their WBS correspondence courses.   Sondra and I had the pleasure of visiting Bro. Monday and his wife in Nigeria last year. Every month, Bro. Monday sends a report of Follow-up efforts in his area of Nigeria.  I decided to go back over the reports that he has sent out this year and the result was very encouraging!

TIM IWE REPORTS ON ONLINE STUDENT

Good morning all,

Joy in heaven as Maka Victor obeyed the gospel. The result of WBS online program comes in a little form. The online study program of WBS gives result in bits in my own understanding.

Another recent baptism from online teaching in Nigeria.

Bro Victor is my students since early last year. We have been exchanging messages back and forth till I sent his details to Bro Nelson Akpan in Calabar who followed him up since February. Bro Victor, an elderly man of above 70 decided to obey the gospel last Sunday. I got the information this morning from Bro Nelson with excitement. WBS Online study is still working. Make it part of your evangelism tools.

Join me to pray that God use Bro Victor to bring other family members to Christ.   Tim Iwe

Tim volunteers as our online coordinator for Nigeria.  He regularly calls people to ACTION!

GOOD NEWS FROM GOSPEL CHARIOT MINISTRY!

Auswich Mashaba who works with the Gospel Chariot Ministry in Zimbabwe helping us last year to do Follow-up baptisms in Rusape with WBS Students.  This young man had completed his WBS courses on our new WBS LiteApp.

George Funk reports: “Whilst in the U.S., by God’s grace, I spoke to a trust that has a soft spot for Zambia and they gave us funds for a new Gospel chariot to work in Zambia and Zimbabwe!

This will be such an encouragement to the work in Zambia and Zimbabwe.  WBS Follow-up depends on such wonderful partnerships as with Gospel Chariots and Sunset International Bible Institute affiliated schools.

ZIMBABWE PRISON MINISTRY WITH CAMPION MUGWENI

On the 5th of August, I went to collect WBS lessons from the inmates and returned the graded lessons. The officer at prison is also studying the Bible with us. We also have a group from Church of Christ PACT Mission that goes to prison every Sunday to meet with inmates. We also appreciate Mutare School of Preaching who are also working with all the Prisons in the Mutare area. They also provide some clothes and hampers to the inmates; at Sakubva we also gave food to inmates for their function in Rusape.

A NOTE FROM NHAMO MARUNGA, HEAD OF MUTARE SCHOOL OF PREACHING, ZIMBABWE

PRAYER REQUEST

NEW CHURCH PLANT ENVISIONED FROM OCEAN BRIDGE FOLLOW-UP IN ZIMBABWE

Volunteer Follow-up evangelists in Zimbabwe hope to plant a new congregation at the Mt. Dema High School as they Follow-up on Ocean Bridge Students.  Currently they have some 60 people meeting on Sundays as they consider forming into a new congregation pursuing New Testament Christianity.

Please pray that in the coming months, more Ocean Bridge Students will graduate and those obeying the Gospel will form into a vibrant congregation of the Lord’s church in the Mt. Dema community!

Zuva Mucherera and Kudzai Kuzipa lead worship for a potential new church plant

God bless,

Brian Rex Davis
