Today, I would like to introduce you to Kella Jones, a faithful servant of the Lord. I am honored to call her my sister in Christ and partner in sharing the Gospel. Kella has been an online WBS Study Helper and Follow-up Coordinator since 2013. Many of the follow-up stories we receive from the USA are from the dedicated work she does connecting WBS Students to local congregations.

Read the following story of this Student she gave us which provides a glimpse into the real lives of people that are touched by her and many more Study Helpers and Follow-up Partners.

It always feels good receiving wonderful news. On Saturday September 10, I received a call from Bernard King at the Country Club Drive church of Christ in Fayetteville, NC. He had very exciting news. Bernard had been contacted to be a Follow-up Partner with a WBS Student named Heaven Akins.

Soon, Bernard connected with Heaven over a phone conversation and could tell how much she loved the Lord! Since no one knows what tomorrow has in store, he offered to assist her in being baptized that evening. Heaven jumped at the idea.

As evening approached, heavy rain covered the area. Heaven usually traveled by bus and was determined to travel even during a downpour. However, Bernard came and picked up Heaven to bring her to the church building where several people were waiting to greet her. They encouraged her as she got ready to have her sins washed away. The outreach from the ladies at the church (who were total strangers) meant so much to Heaven. She could feel the love of Christ in so many ways.

Heaven placed membership with the Country Club Dr. church of Christ on that Sunday. Bernard said they have a class for those just baptized that he knew would be good for her as she begins growing in the faith.

Do you want to help connect WBS students to a local church? You can help in two ways.

First, as a Follow-up Partner you simply apply and then wait for someone from WBS to contact you. Then you reach out to the student to set up a Bible study or arrange the baptism. Second is being a Follow-up Coordinator. This requires monitoring the Follow-up Board and then connecting Students who need follow-up to a Follow-up Partner in your preferred country. Help us build the follow-up network by getting involved and applying today.

Join Brian Rex Davis and his guests as they tackle the third principle of productive Bible study: Scripture can never mean what it never meant. What a passage meant to its original audience sets the boundaries for what it can mean today. Jesus models this in Luke 24:44–49 by showing how the Law, Prophets, and Psalms pointed to his suffering, resurrection, and the proclamation of repentance.

2 Timothy 2:15 (“rightly handling the word of truth”) implies there is a wrong way to handle Scripture.
