Letter from Georgia (paraphrased)

Your Fall issue of 2024 included a stock photo representing Jesus with unruly hair. He looks like a wild man, out of his mind. I think Jesus was more dignified and should be portrayed as such!

I don’t know of any particular verse that addresses Jesus’ grooming habits. But upon reflection of your cited verses, I can see the implications of Jesus commanding respect and imparting an aura of peace and strength. So – on a personal scruple basis – I agree!

Going forward, we will try and choose stock photos representing Jesus in a manner commensurate to this view. Of course, I will reserve the right to use a slightly disheveled image should we try to illustrate his chasing of the money changers from the temple. And of course, I cannot make any promises when it comes to stock photos representing John the Baptist. Among those born of women there is none greater (Matthew 11:11), but he lived rough!

Three paragraphs in the middle of page 9 in your article on Mentoring in Christian Business (Winter 2025) struck me as being critical of the role of the church and its corporate studies. Is this the stance of WBS?

Absolutely and categorically not! WBS believes the church is the pillar and buttress of the truth
(1 Timothy 3:15), and its ministry is vital to the integration of Christian principles within the daily lives of businessmen and women.

Having checked with the author who serves as a deacon where I serve as an elder, we are of the same mind! Sometimes our non-inspired writings can come across to others in ways we never intended. The author’s intent was to call for a full integration of the Christian life into the daily lives of every businessman and woman. In my editing role, every reread I made of this article before publishing, I understood the writer’s intent in the context of the previous paragraph about “Compartmentalization,” the heading of the paragraphs in question of “Integration,” and his last sentence on “a retreat into compartmentalization.” Our apologies if our efforts in communication came across in any other way. We have tried to make that crystal clear in our edited digital publication. Thank you for this input! So important.
